ABOUT US

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) collects, tests, processes, stores and delivers blood, plasma and tissue to every NHS Trust in England and North Wales. We also match, allocate, audit and analyse organ donations across the whole of the UK.

Collecting approximately two million blood donations of which 900,000 are processed in Filton, NHSBT prepares blood components from these donations and makes them available for use in hospitals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Here at our site in Bristol we ensure that the blood supplied is properly screened and safe for patients.

Our teams work with the very latest technology, serving hospitals across England and North Wales. As well as providing specialist medical advice and clinical support to these hospitals, we educate and train transfusion medicine specialists. We also offer advice on donor eligibility, and guidance when people are found to be unable to donate.
